Dr. Maura Sullivan Psy.D.
Licensed Psychologist
As a licensed psychologist it is my passion and honor to co-author your next chapter with you. I have a deep and abiding drive to support others by helping them feel seen, heard, and understood. I seek to bring insight into self through understanding thoughts, emotions, sensation, and the mind-body network. Integrating over twenty years of practice as a relational psychologist with my understanding of yoga principles gained from personal practice and yoga certification offering multiple channels for introducing change to your narrative.
My journey as a psychologist started in the pages of a book. I have always loved reading and characters and been absorbed by the plot twists that life tends to throw at us. I identified my career path early on and studied psychology and womenβs studies as an undergraduate. Following a few years of hands-on work in residential treatment I attended graduate school with a focus on individual psychotherapy for adolescent and adult clients.
I was drawn to private practice work and spent the majority of my career running my own practice in a small town in New Hampshire where I worked with adolescent and adult clients with an emphasis on assessment and psychotherapy. I had the privilege to learn from the bravery and inner wisdom of so many clients. In 2018 I made the difficult decision to close that practice and return to the Pacific Northwest where my family has resided since the mid-80βs. Portland welcomed me back with a thriving private practice and the advent of telehealth allowed me to maintain some of the long-term connections I developed with my east coast clients.
I am currently licensed in both Oregon and New Hampshire with a focus on individual psychotherapy for adolescents aged 16 and older and adults of any age. I run a monthly self-care meeting for psychologists and behavioral health providers. I offer professional consultation with a focus on the integration of yoga and traditional psychotherapy. In addition to these individual offerings I have a number of workshops focused on yoga tools for emotional regulation and stress management for adolescent and adult clients and periodic self-care retreats. For more information on the specifics of my background and training you are welcome to review my curriculum vitae.
Work life balance is an important part of mental well-being and is essential for those of us practicing healing arts. My self-care happens in the outdoors with my dog in the woods or on a paddleboard in the water. My yoga practice is a fundamental part of my daily routine. I enjoy reading, cooking, knitting, and good television.
